Caps Residency fall to 1860 Munich

Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency lost 1-0 to 1860 Munich’s U-19 Junior Bundesliga side on Tuesday. It was the team’s second match of their two-week trip to Germany, with Thomas Niendorf’s squad losing 2-1 to Bayern Munich U-19’s on Monday. In a game played under floodlights and on turf, Monday’s goalscorer Randy Edwini-Bonsu missed a major chance to give Whitecaps Residency an lead early in the game. The Canadian visitors remained dangerous on the counter-attack against an 1860 side that were, for the majority, a year older in age than the Whitecaps. The hosts had lots of possession during the friendly contest, but struggled to create any real chances.Despite battling throughout Tuesday’s game, 1860 took the lead five minutes after halftime and held on for the one-goal victory.Though it was a second straight defeat on their German tour, the Residency coaching staff of Niendorf, Steve Meadley, and Joe Martin were delighted with the effort of the youngsters in the first two games. The group will be back in action on Thursday, as they take on the U-19 Junior Bundesliga team of Jahn Regensburg before meeting VfB Stuttgart’s U-19 Junior Bundesliga side on Saturday. Whitecaps Residency will also play a combined U-19/U-23 team from 1860 Munich on October 30 before completing their schedule with a friendly against amateur club SC Zwiesel of the Lower Bavaria Bezirksoberliga.Whitecaps FC Residency – starting line-up v 1860 MunichSimon Thomas, Greg Smith, Adam Straith, Anthony DiNicolo, William Hyde, Devin Gunenc, Philippe Davies, Antonio Rago, Marcus Johnstone, Randy Edwini-Bonsu, Navid Mashinchi
