Residency continue Dallas Cup build-up

Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency claimed a couple of productive results in their build-up for Dallas Cup XXIX last week.Thomas Niendorf's side are preparing to take part in the U-19 Super Group of the prestigious youth soccer competition, with Whitecaps Residency facing Portuguese giants Benfica on Sunday, Mexico's Chivas Guadalajara on Monday, and German club Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday, March 19.Last Wednesday, the Residency team played Trinity Western University Spartans for the third time this winter season in Langley, BC. Though five members of the squad were missing due to injury, Niendorf's side impressed in a 4-2 victory over the 2007 Canada West men's soccer champions.Marcus Johnstone twice cancelled out TWU goals on 38 and 61 minutes before Gagandeep Dosanjh struck a fine winning goal for the visitors on 68 minutes. North Vancouver, BC, native Devin Gunenc then sealed an excellent second-half performance with a fourth goal in the dying stages.On Saturday, Whitecaps Residency played a young University of British Columbia Thunderbirds side in a training game at Thunderbird Stadium, with Niendorf's side winning the contest 4-1.After UBC took the lead on 37 minutes, Gunenc drew the Whitecaps level five minutes later from the penalty spot. Niendorf then made five changes for the start of the second half, with Jamaican youth international Dever Orgill and winger Alex Semenets posing a real threat to the Thunderbirds back-line.Ethan Gage put the Residency team in front with a fine header from a corner on 56 minutes before Kyle Porter extended their lead on 68 minutes. Orgill capped another good result with a fourth goal in the final quarter hour of the game.After a week of training at Simon Fraser University, Whitecaps Residency will travel to the state of Texas on Friday ahead of their first Dallas Cup game on Sunday.
