Residency beat VfL Neckarau 5-0

Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency recorded their second straight result on their current trip to Germany with a 5-0 win over VfL Neckarau's U-19 side on Thursday.

Following on from last week's win over Stuttgarter Kickers U-19 side, Thomas Niendorf's squad built up for this weekend's INSEL-CUP tournament with a convincing five-goal result. Whitecaps Residency made quick arrangements to play the young Germans in Mannheim after Thursday's initial friendly with the Zambian U-20 national team was cancelled.

In warm and sunny spring-like conditions, a goalless first half saw the Whitecaps look the better side in the opening 45 minutes, though Neckarau provided a decent test for the Residency squad.

The friendly was decided inside the first ten minutes of the second half, as Randy Edwini-Bonsu struck two minutes after the restart. On 52 minutes, Gagandeep Dosanjh doubled Vancouver's advantage before Kyle Porter put the game out of Neckarau's reach with a third goal two minutes after that.

Dosanjh then struck his second goal of the game on 58 minutes before the Abbotsford, BC, native completed his hat-trick on 66 minutes for the five-goal scoreline.

The Residency team will hope to build on Thursday's result when they open their campaign in the INSEL-CUP tournament on Friday against SpVgg 03 Ilvesheim. On Saturday, Niendorf's side will play the U-19 sides of Greek club Skoda Xanthi and German side TSG 1899 Hoffenheim before completing the tournament with two more games on Sunday. All matches in the INSEL-CUP will be played in two 20-minute halves.
