'Caps call up forward Orgill

Vancouver Whitecaps FC announce that forward Dever Orgill has been called up to the Whitecaps senior men’s team from Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency of the USL Premier Development League (PDL).

The six-foot, 150-pound native of Port Antonio, Jamaica, joined the Residency program last September and has performed well in major international youth tournaments. Most notably, last March, Orgill scored goals against the academy sides of Germany’s Eintracht Frankfurt and England’s Leicester City at the Dallas Cup XXIX.

Orgill has started both PDL games for the Whitecaps this season and has one goal to his credit.

Prior to joining the Whitecaps, the striker was a member of Jamaican club Progressive FC, in the Portland Football Association Division One. Orgill has also represented Titchfield High in the previous two Inter-Secondary Schools Association DaCosta Cup competitions.

Internationally, Orgill was the captain of the 2007 Jamaican side at the CONCACAF U-17 World Cup qualifiers and scored the game-tying goal against USA, as the Reggae Boyz went on to defeat the Stars & Stripes 3-2. The striker also scored five goals in six games at the 2006 Caribbean Cup. These included goals against Canada, Cuba and Mexico.

In 2005, Orgill earned the Golden Boot award in the Caribbean Football Union’s Under-15 tournament held in Trinidad & Tobago after scoring 12 times in six games. In total, Orgill has scored 22 goals in his 22 appearances with the national team.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency allows elite youth players from U-17 to U-19 to achieve professional opportunities with the Whitecaps men’s team and world-class European clubs using the European club model of identification, development and placement.
