Toronto FC leading scorer Danny Dichio, suffering from a concussion, will not be in the lineup when his squad takes on the Vancouver Whitecaps in a Canadian Champions League rematch on Wednesday.
Dichio, 33, hasn't played since a 1-0 upset loss to Vancouver on Canada Day.
Coach John Carver said the forward will not fly with the team, but could be available for its Major League Soccer game Saturday against the Chicago Fire.
"We don't know when he picked up the concussion," Carver said on Monday. "Danny can't remember anything in the Vancouver game actually happening to him, so it could have been at any stage.
"He did say he remembered blocking a ball that was hit hard towards goal and hit him on the top of the head. We have to keep an eye on it and see what happens, but he's not travelling with us. If he's OK later in the week, we will fly him into Chicago for the game."
Olivier Tebily and Todd Dunivant, both with ankle injuries, will not make the trip to Vancouver. Veteran Jim Brennan will, but won't play after incurring two yellow cards.
NBA star Steve Nash's younger brother Martin scored the lone goal to lead the Whitecaps to a 1-0 road victory over Toronto on Canada Day.
The Montreal Impact lead the Champions League standings. Both Vancouver and Montreal play in the 11-team United Soccer Leagues First Division (one level below MLS).
The top team in the final standings of the round-robin competition will be Canada's representative at the CONCACAF Champions League, an international club competition that crowns the best pro team in North America and Central America, and the Caribbean.
The CONCACAF Champions League winner will then go on to play at the FIFA World Club Championship in Japan in December 2009 against other continental champions.
Wednesday's game between Vancouver and Toronto will be streamed live at 10 p.m. ET on CBCSports.ca. The tournament wraps up on July 22 when Toronto hosts Montreal (CBC Bold, CBCSports.ca, 7 p.m. ET).
Dichio leads Toronto with five goals in MLS play. Toronto FC sit in a tie for fourth place with Chicago in the Eastern Conference at 6-5-3.
The clubs are also in a battle involving longtime U.S. national player Brian McBride. Toronto holds McBride's MLS rights, but the player would like to close out his career in his native Chicago. So far, the teams have been unable to work out compensation heading to Toronto in exchange for McBride.
