Whitecaps draw Thunder 0-0 to stay two points back of Islanders - The Canadian Press

BURNABY, B.C. — Fresh from a disappointing loss to the Puerto Rico Islanders, the Vancouver Whitecaps couldn't capitalize on home turf in a 0-0 draw to the Minnesota Thunder on Sunday.

Neither side could capitalize on quality chances. Minnesota's Nathan Knox couldn't knock in a low cross from Melvin Tarley in the 11th minute, while Vancouver's Alfredo Valente's shot was blocked in the 29th minute only to have his rebound hit the side-netting.

Both teams also lost a man during the match. Minnesota's Andres Arango was sent off late in the first half and Vancouver's centre back Omar Jarun received two yellow cards in the match.

The draw keeps the Whitecaps two points back of USL First Division leaders Puerto Rico, with two games remaining in their regular season. It was the Thunder's third straight draw. They are unbeaten in four matches.
