- THE BUZZ:
Thor shook Swangard in more ways than one on Saturday.
The Whitecaps started the second half of their USL-1 season with a bang when coach Teitur Thordarson put flashy Marlon James on field after a two-hour thunderstorm delay. James scored twice in the 4-2 win over the Puerto Rico Islanders.
- DARK, STORMY NIGHT:
Bolts of lightning distracted fans until referee John Oliva halted the game in the 43rd minute. The Caps led on Marcus Haber's 12th minute goal. Fans on the metallic east side bleachers were told to move to the grandstand. The teams returned to the saturated pitch after 10 p.m.
- BOSS BOB:
"I can't ever remember having that amount of thunder and lightning for the length of time we had tonight," said Whitecaps' president Bob Lenarduzzi. "It's kind of consistent with the way the season has gone."
The 6-7-3 Caps hit the road for a three-game trip beginning Friday in Rochester. They also play Saturday in Cleveland and Aug. 6 in Portland before returning home Aug. 7 to host Charleston.
