Prospects Women off to Canada Games

Vancouver Whitecaps Prospects Women are off to Prince Edward Island to represent British Columbia at the 2009 Canada Games next week. The Prospects have so far enjoyed a successful summer. Jesse Symons' squad ended their Pacific Coast Soccer League Premier Division season in second place, losing only once in 16 matches, while Jenna Richardson finished in a tie for the league lead with 19 goals. The young 'Caps followed that up by winning the Dave Fryatt Challenge Cup, as they defeated PCSL regular season champions Fraser Valley Action 4-2 in the final in Kelowna, BC, last month. The Prospects then continued their good form with a strong run through the prestigious San Diego Surf Cup tournament, where they faced some of the best youth teams in the United States and Canada earlier this month. Symons' side made it all the way to the final before falling to Real So Cal White. As part of the Whitecaps partnership with BC Soccer, the Prospects now look forward to representing BC at the Canada Games. The women’s soccer competition runs from next Monday to Saturday, August 22, in Summerside, PEI. As Team BC, the squad will play in Pool A and face both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. They open the tournament with a match against New Brunswick at Credit Union Place on Monday before wrapping up pool play against Nova Scotia at the same venue on Wednesday.
