Charles Gbeke scored twice to give the Vancouver Whitecaps a 3-2 win over the Austin Aztex in United Soccer Leagues' First Division action on Wednesday.
Key to the game:
Kenold Versailles converted a Wes Knight throw-in for the 11th minute opener. Gbeke doubled the lead a dozen minutes later.
Austin's Jean Alexandre had his first of two in the 34th minute. Gbeke (65th minute) and Alexandre (76th) traded goals in the second half. The loss eliminated the expansion 4-14-8 Aztex from their faint playoff hopes. Vancouver is 9-9-8 and remains in seventh place.
The pair of goals gave Gbeke the league-lead. He has 11 in 24 games, while Portland Timber Mandjou Keita has 11 in 25.
Vancouver tied Austin 1-1 on April 21 in Texas. The teams reconvene in Vancouver on Sept. 13 after the Whitecaps visit the Minnesota Thunder on Friday and Montreal Impact on Sept. 9.
