Lang set to commit to Caps - The Province

It appears a fan favourite will be returning to the Vancouver Whitecaps women's team.

Kara Lang, a 23-year-old forward who helped Canada to the semifinals of the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup, and the Whitecaps to the 2004 W-League title, is expected to announce her commitment to the club today.

Lang is coming off a difficult senior year at UCLA. In September, she suffered a season-ending injury, tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee, the same injury that forced her to miss all of 2006.

Although she was raised in Oakville, Ont., Lang's play and personality made her a huge hit with fans and young female players in B.C. when she suited up for the Caps from 2003-05.

Her presence would be a big boost for a team that's struggled to match the profile it built when the national team was based in Vancouver in 2006.

Last season, Lang played three games for the Whitecaps' W-League rivals, Pali Blues of Los Angeles.

In 88 career games for Canada, she's scored 33 goals.
