Prospects cruise to win #10

Vancouver Whitecaps Prospects Women produced another dominant display in the Pacific Coast Soccer League following an 8-0 away win over TSS Academy at Vancouver College on Tuesday night.

Jaclyn Sawicki was the leading sniper with two goals, as the Prospects raised their record to a perfect 10W-0L-0D in the PCSL Premier Division.

Fielding their strongest starting XI of the season, the young Whitecaps wasted no time taking complete control of the match. Two minutes in, Jenna Richardson flicked the ball ahead to Abigail Raymer, whose TSS marker slipped, allowing the Prospects top goalscorer to break in and slot home for her 12th of the season.

Two minutes later, Raymer returned the favour, sending Richardson in to fire it past TSS goalkeeper Loren Liden, who was the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Player of the Year in 2009 with Langara College.

Vancouver came incredibly close at the ten minute mark, as Richardson broke in, danced around Liden, but had her shot blocked on the goal line. With the keeper still stranded, Natalie Boyd struck the rebound, but it too was blocked by a defender on the doorstep.

The onslaught continued, however, and Sawicki made it 3-0 on 12 minutes. She cut in from the left before sending a dipping shot over Liden from the edge of the area. Sawicki almost netted another goal moments later, shooting over the net, with the keeper well out of position.

A little more than a half-hour into the contest, forward Nikki Wright hit a quick low shot into the bottom corner for her fourth goal. Wright then had a great chance in close following a corner kick, but Liden stopped her shot from two yards out.

Vancouver led 4-0 at the break.

TSS's best chance came from a shot early in the second half by Alexsandra Aulin-Haynes, but it was easily saved by Prospects goalkeeper Gurveen Clair. The Whitecaps shot-stopper had little to do in claiming the shutout.

Vancouver continued to dominate play, and upped the tempo near the hour mark.

On 63 minutes, Sawicki rounded out her brace with another good dipping shot over the keeper for her seventh of the season. Five minutes later, Nicole Setterlund played it ahead for Jenna Di Nunzio to score her sixth goal of the season, making it 6-0.

On 81 minutes, Setterlund in the box touched it ahead for Maryse Reichgeld, who hit the bottom corner from in close for her second goal on the season.

Finally on 83 minutes, Richardson flicked a corner kick to Erin Uchacz, and the powerful defender headed home her third of the year to make it an 8-0 final. It was the fifth time in ten games this year that Vancouver have scored seven or more goals in a match.

The Prospects continue to lead the field in the PCSL Premier Division standings, as they maintain a three-point lead and a game in hand over the 9W-2L-0D Victoria Highlanders FC. So far, the Whitecaps have outscored their opponents 59 to 3. With six games left in the regular season, they look certain to eclipse the league scoring mark of 63 goals, which they set last year.

The next Prospects game is a home clash versus Chilliwack FC at McLeod Athletic Park in Langley, BC, on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. PT. The game is the first of a Whitecaps women's doubleheader, with the club's W-League side hosting Pali Blues in the afternoon at McLeod Athletic Park at 2 p.m. PT.
