Canadian international Kaylyn Kyle joins Whitecaps FC W-League roster

Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that Canadian international midfielder Kaylyn Kyle has been signed to the club’s United Soccer Leagues (USL) W-League roster for the remainder of the 2011 season.


“Kaylyn is a superb midfielder who was a key part for our success last season,” said Hubert Busby Jr., Whitecaps FC women’s head coach. “Her experience from playing in the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup will be of great benefit, as we enter the playoffs.”


Kyle, 22, enters her fifth season with Whitecaps FC after starting all eight of her appearances last year, scoring one goal and registering a team-leading three assists. During her career with Whitecaps FC, Kyle has started 18 of her 24 appearances, scoring two goals and recording five assists. Outside of her time with Vancouver, Kyle played for Piteå IF in the Swedish Damallsvenskan in 2009.


Internationally, Kyle has started 29 of her 35 appearances for Canada, scoring two goals. Most recently, the native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, started all three of Canada’s matches at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany. Kyle was also a part of the squad that won the 2010 CONCACAF Women’s Championship in Mexico, as well as having represented Canada at the U-17 and U-20 levels.


After a terrific regular season, the Whitecaps FC women now travel to face Santa Clarita Blue Heat in the 2011 W-League Western Conference final this Sunday, July 24, at College of the Canyons. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT.
