United Soccer Leagues (USL) announced on Monday that Vancouver Whitecaps FC women’s players Kelsey Hood, Tiffany Weimer and Sydney Leroux have been named to the 2011 USL W-League All-Western Conference Team.

A co-recipient of Whitecaps FC’s Most Valuable Player Award, Hood was selected to the All-Western Conference squad after a stellar season that saw her captain Whitecaps FC while anchoring both the midfield and backline for a Vancouver side that recorded eight clean sheets on the season. During the regular season, the gritty midfielder registered one assist in 13 appearances. On Sunday, she was instrumental in setting up Jenna Richardson’s game-winning goal over Santa Clarita Blue Heat in the Western Conference Final, which helped propel Whitecaps FC into this weekend’s 2011 W-League Championship ‘Final Four’, slated for July 29 – 31 at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Washington.

After being voted as this year’s Whitecaps FC Fan Favourite, Weimer is featured on the All-Western Conference Team following an outstanding season with the ‘Caps. The skilful midfielder established herself as one of the premier offensive talents in the W-League, scoring seven goals and adding four assists for 18 points in 14 regular season appearances while also doubling as Whitecaps FC Women’s Ambassador.

After returning for her second season with the ‘Caps, scoring sensation Leroux finds herself as an All-Western Conference selection in recognition of her memorable campaign, in which she tied for second in W-League regular season scoring with 11 goals and 24 points in 11 appearances. The dynamic striker continued her scoring prowess in Sunday’s Western Conference Final, scoring a 25-yard rocket to help launch the ‘Caps to a 4-3 victory. Leroux, a native of Surrey, British Columbia, also stars for NCAA Division I powerhouse UCLA, where she was named a finalist for the Mac Hermann Trophy, awarded to the top player in NCAA Division I soccer.

Having defeated Santa Clarita Blue Heat in Sunday’s W-League Western Conference Final, Whitecaps FC now travel across the border for the W-League Championship ‘Final Four’ in Tukwila, Washington. The action begins this Friday, July 29, as they face Atlanta Silverbacks in the W-League semifinals. Should Whitecaps FC win on Friday, they will face the winner of the other semifinal between the host Seattle Sounders Women and the undefeated Ottawa Fury in the W-League Championship Final on Sunday, July 31, with kickoff set for 4 p.m. PT. Sunday’s Championship Final will be shown on tape-delay on Fox Sports World Canada on Monday, August 1.
