Whitecaps FC take weekly awards

Davide-Cannon

It was a clean sweep for Whitecaps FC in Week 26, as MLSsoccer.com announced on Friday that midfielder Davide Chiumiento has won Goal of the Week and goalkeeper Joe Cannon has won Save of the Week.

For the second time this season, a Whitecaps FC player has won Goal of the Week in a landslide. The goal came when Camilo blew by two New York defenders on the left wing, and then delivered a great cut back pass to Chiumiento who controlled the ball with his left foot spun around and volleyed the ball in off the cross bar with his right foot to give the ‘Caps a 1-0 lead.

Voted by fans, Chiumiento's strike won with 64 percent and will likely be a formidible challenger to teammate Eric Hassli's wonderstrike in Week 13 for Goal of the Year.

Cannon, meanwhile, took home Save of the Week for a diving stop in the 80th minute on Juan Agudelo's header, followed by a second stop in tight on Dane Richards. The saves kept the score level at 1-1, the eventual final scoreline.
