'Caps Chronicle: Home to a hero

'Caps Chronicle - Sept 19, 2011

VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC IN THE NEWS:

Not only will BC Place become home to Vancouver Whitecaps FC, but it is also home to Terry Fox Plaza - a dedication to the Canadian hero. Last Friday morning, a new Terry Fox memorial was unveiled outside BC Place featuring four bronze statues designed by local artist Douglas Coupland. Read about the tribute and hear Terry Fox’s father, Rolly, speak of the incredible work that wife Betty achieved before passing away earlier this year (Jesse Johnston – News 1130).

After losing to LA Galaxy 3-0 last Saturday evening, head coach Bruce Arena commented on how the result was not an accurate indication of how Whitecaps FC played. “I don’t think that was an easy game,” Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said. “I thought Vancouver played quite hard, really gave us an excellent first half. That’s not a 3-0 game” (Luis Bueno – MLSsoccer.com).

Even while suffering the loss, Whitecaps FC goalkeeper Joe Cannon marked an incredible individual achievement, as the 36-year-old appeared in his 300th MLS regular season game (Marc Weber – The Province).

With the FIFA 12 demo released last week, Operation Sports assembled a roundtable of analysers to discuss the major game enhancements in this year’s edition. Jayson Young writes, “Overall, FIFA 12 seems to be an early game of the year favorite…” (Caley RoarkJayson YoungDustin TomsKelvin Mak – Operation Sports).
