It's been a long time coming since the Canadian women's national team have had a chance to play in front of a die-hard British Columbia fan-base. The Province's Marc Weber speaks to Coquitlam native and national team member Brittany Timko about having the hometown advantage, and the opportunity to inspire a whole new generation of women's soccer players. Making it to the Olympics isn’t just a passion for Canadian national team member and former Whitecaps player Shannon Woeller, it's also in her blood. Last week’s drafting of Darren Mattocks has been making the news in his native Jamaica. The Jamaica Observer noted that Mattocks is the 14th Jamaican to ‘stir it up’ in Major League Soccer (MLS), joining the ranks of Dane Richards of New York Red Bulls, Omar Cummings of Colorado Rapids, Ryan Johnson of Toronto FC and O’Brian White of Seattle Sounders FC. It seems former Whitecaps FC head coach Teitur Thordason may be taking the reins of a team in India as part of a newly formed soccer competition, Premier League Soccer (PLS). A number of big names have also followed suit, which could have Teitur coaching the likes of veterans Fabio Cannavaro, Robert Pires, Robbie Fowler or Hernan Crespo. (Cassius Management)
