Whitecaps FC is proud to participate in the first KL Cares and Kicks Extreme Summer Soccer Event 2012 which has been organized by Kw’umut Lelum Child and Family Services. The event will take place from August 7 to 9 in Nanaimo, BC. Whitecaps FC club ambassador Carl Valentine along with the ‘Caps head coach Martin Rennie, captain and MLS All-Star defender Jay DeMerit. and several other members of Whitecaps FC will be participating in the event.

“It all started with a vision of bringing community together and promoting hope and health. The global sport of soccer fits very well with our communities,” said William Yoachim, executive director of Kw’umut Lelum Child and Family Services. “Building this relationship with Whitecaps FC has been a perfect fit as the ‘Caps are all about community and partnerships.”

At the event, skills and drills sessions will be set-up and tailored to the different age groups of participants. There will be approximately seven participants per coach which will give both players and coaches from Whitecaps FC the chance to meet and interact with participants, creating lasting bonds.

“We want to be a team for British Columbia,” said Rennie. “I’m trying to get out and meet new people, and encourage them to give back to their community. As the coach of Whitecaps FC there’s an opportunity and responsibility for me to give back to other people.”
