My One Thing- Bob

WFC and Canadian Cancer Society: My One Thing

Did you know approximately half of all cancers can be prevented?

At this coming Saturday's Whitecaps FC match against Real Salt Lake at BC Place, fans have the opportunity to share their one simple lifestyle change to reduce their risk of cancer. The change can be as simple as taking the stairs at work, or eating more vegetables. The “My One Thing” initiative by the Canadian Cancer Society encourages British Columbians to pledge their one thing to reduce their risk of cancer and chronic diseases.

When ‘Caps fans purchase their 50/50 tickets at the match this Saturday, they will also receive a post-it note to write down their one thing. The post-it notes will be displayed on the volunteer’s place card that they will be carrying. Whitecaps FC fans can also pledge their one thing at ‘Caps Kickoff and Section 212 during the match for a minimum donation of $1.

“Like many other Canadians, cancer has affected me personally and motivated me to commit to the fight against cancer,” said Whitecaps FC president Bob Lenarduzzi. “I think too often we mistakenly believe that cancer prevention is out of our hands or requires a major change in our lifestyle. This initiative reminds us all that cancer prevention is up to each one of us and together, we can make a difference.”

About one-third of all cancers can be prevented by eating well, being active, and maintaining a healthy body weight. Saturday's 'Caps match will be dedicated to the Canadian Cancer Society by highlighting Camp Goodtimes and the My One Thing campaign.
