Camilo named MLS Player of the Month for October

VANCOUVER, BC –
Major League Soccer announced on Thursday that Vancouver Whitecaps FC striker Camilo Sanvezzo has been named the league’s Player of the Month for October. The Brazilian wins the award for the second time this season after also being honoured in July.
This month, Camilo claimed his third and fourth MLS Player of the Week awards – the most among any player in the league this year. The 5-foot-7 striker scored six goals in October, bringing his MLS total to 22 goals on the season, enough
to claim the 2013 Golden Boot award as the top scorer in the league.

Camilo started off the month in electric fashion, scoring two goals in a
2-2 draw against Portland Timbers at BC Place
. First came a long-distance free kick – his fifth free kick goal of the season in all competitions. Then came a goal many are calling Goal of the Year in MLS, a

Next up was a match against rivals Seattle Sounders FC, and though the South American would not score, he played a crucial role in
propelling Vancouver to a dominant 4-1 victory
. With the visiting ‘Caps already ahead 1-0, Camilo played a brilliant no-look pass to rookie Kekuta Manneh to send him on a breakaway which put Vancouver up 2-0. The assist was Camilo’s sixth of the season. With the result, Whitecaps FC would go on to
claim the 2013 Cascadia Cup title

10 days later, Camilo scored his third goal of the month when he converted a penalty kick earned by teammate Jordan Harvey as
the ‘Caps faced Colorado Rapids at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park
– his 8th goal scored on the road in 2013.
Vancouver’s all-time leading goalscorer in MLS finished the season with a bang. Needing two goals against Colorado to claim the Golden Boot, Camilo did one better and
scored his first career hat-trick with Whitecaps FC on the way to a 3-0 win
. The hat-trick came in different ways. In the 44th minute, he converted a penalty kick. In the 74th, he pulled off a dazzling dribbling display before passing the ball past goalkeeper Clint Irwin for his second. And finally, in the 85th minute, he ran onto a ball over the top from Russell Teibert and fired a volley into the lower corner for his third goal of the night and 22nd of the season.
Adding to his many accolades, Camilo was also named
2013 Whitecaps FC BMO Player of the Year
while claiming the Domenic Mobilio Golden Boot award as the team’s top scorer.
