2013 in Review: A Year of Firsts

It was a memorable year of firsts for Whitecaps FC, from Camilo's unbelievable goal-scoring exploits to feats of national pride, 2013 had it all.

The first… piece of silverware for Whitecaps FC came in the form of the Cascadia Cup. The Blue and White topped the 2013 Cascadia Cup standings with nine points and a record of 2W-1L-3D against their Pacific Northwest rivals this season. Speaking of which ...

The first... win for the Blue and White over a Cascadia opponent since joining MLS came on July 6 when the Sounders paid a visit to BC Place. The 'Caps prevailed 2-0 behind an early strike from Kenny Miller and an insurance goal from Darren Mattocks.

The first.... three-match winning streak since joining MLS came between the span of June 15 to June 29, when the 'Caps defeated New England Revolution (4-3), Chivas USA (3-1) and finally DC United (1-0).

The first.... win over LA Galaxy in MLS came on May 11, behind the first two career goals from Canadian Russell Teibert.

The first ...win in the month of September occured in the form of a 3-0 romp of Montreal Impact on September 21.

The first... hat-trick scored by a member of Whitecaps FC in MLS came from Kekuta Manneh in Seattle on October 9. At 18-years-old, Manneh was also the youngest player in MLS history to score three goals in one match. Camilo would follow-up with the second hat-trick in 'Caps MLS history vs. Colorado in the season finale. Speaking of  Camilo ...

The first...  winner of the MLS Golden Boot award in club history. Camilo took the honour in 2013 with 22 goals. The Magician trailed Chicago Fire's Mike Magee on the final day of the season by two goals, but the brilliant Brazilian dramatically bagged a hat-trick in the season finale versus Colorado, to propel him to the award. That Camilo sure had a great year ...

The first... Player of the Month award given to Whitecaps FC. Camilo took the honours in July, before winning the award again in October. Camilo also led the way by winning MLS Player of the Week four times (the most in MLS), while Kenny Miller, Brad Knighton, and Kekuta Manneh also took home the award in 2013. Whitecaps FC led all teams with seven total Player of the Week awards.

Lastly, the first... senior men's national team call-ups for three members of the organization came this year. Residency products Sam Adekugbe, Jackson Farmer, and Caleb Clarke all earned their first call-ups for the Canadian national team at the senior level under new head coach, Benito Floro.
