Canada U-20 national team calls in 11 Whitecaps FC Residency products

Canada Soccer announced on Wednesday that 11 Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency products have been called into camp with Canada’s U-20 men’s national team in Sunrise, Florida from December 11 until December 17.
Among the call-ups are Whitecaps FC goalkeeper
Marco Carducci
and midfielder
Marco Bustos
from the MLS roster, current Residency defender
Jordan Haynes
, and Residency graduates in defender
Jackson Farmer
and midfielder
Mitch Piraux
. Also included on the roster are four Residency graduates currently playing in college: goalkeeper
Nolan Wirth
(Oregon State University), defenders
Quinton Duncan
(University of Tulsa) and
Chris Serban
(University of British Columbia), and striker
Brody Huitema
(Duke University). Rounding out the Whitecaps FC affiliations are former Residency defender Sebastian Cabrera and striker Sadi Jalali.
“This is a chance to get our North American players together one last time,” said head coach Rob Gale. “Many of them have been out of season for a while and we'll want to measure their physical readiness for qualifying as well as build on some tactical principles and objectives for Montego Bay in January – making sure everyone is on the same page heading into qualifying.”
The 20-man roster for Canada at the 2015 CONCACAF Men’s U-20 Championship has yet to be finalized, so this camp will also be a final chance for players make their case for inclusion.
“The squad is not finalized yet with myself and the staff still looking to select the final squad members who have not featured with us in international competition yet this season and those that have not fully convinced us they are ready for the level of competition we face. All will be afforded the opportunity to stake their claim for a spot on the plane on January 8 into Jamaica, and as it should be – it’s up to them to prove their worth."
The team is scheduled to arrive into Montego Bay, Jamaica, on January 8 in advance of the competition. Canada’s quest for the FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015 gets underway on Saturday, January 10 against Haiti. They’ll have five games in Group B to try and book a spot in their first FIFA U-20 World Cup since 2007.
