Whitecaps FC #BringItHome, clinch bye to Western Conference semifinals

VANCOUVER, BC – With Sunday’s 3-0 win over Houston Dynamo, Vancouver Whitecaps FC have clinched second place in the Western Conference. The youngest team in MLS will begin their 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs campaign in the Conference Semifinals. Playoff tickets are on sale now at ticketmaster.ca/whitecapsfc.

Since joining the league in 2011, Whitecaps FC are the only club to have improved their MLS points total for five consecutive seasons. The club finished with 28 points in the first season, followed by 43 points in 2012, 48 points in 2013, 50 points in 2014, and 53 points this season.

By virtue of their second place finish, the ‘Caps have earned a first round bye and will face the higher remaining seed among the two Knockout Round winners. Whitecaps FC will play Portland Timbers in the Conference Semifinals, should they win their Knockout Round match against Sporting Kansas City on Thursday. If Kansas City wins, the ‘Caps will play the winner of Wednesday's Seattle Sounders FC against LA Galaxy Knockout Round match.

Whitecaps FC posted the best road record in MLS this season at 7W-7L-3D. The first leg of the Conference Semifinals will see the ‘Caps playing on the road on Sunday, November 1 before the Blue and White #BringItHome and return to BC Place to host the second leg on Sunday, November 8 – the club’s first ever home MLS playoff match. Kickoff times for the Conference Semifinals will be announced at a later date.

All Whitecaps FC matches in the 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs will be broadcast live on TSN and TSN Radio Vancouver.

Following a FIFA international break, the Conference Championship matches will begin with the first leg on Sunday, November 22 and close out on Sunday, November 29.

Of the two clubs that reach MLS Cup, the team with the better regular season record will host the championship game on Sunday, December 6.

Whitecaps FC previously qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs in 2012 and 2014 – playing in the Knockout Round on both occasions. In their first postseason appearance, the ‘Caps fell 2-1 at eventual MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy. Last year, Whitecaps FC dropped a 2-1 result on the road at FC Dallas.

‘Caps Club Members who opted in for playoff tickets will be charged on a round-by-round basis, beginning with the Sunday, November 8 match. Fans who purchased single match tickets to the Knockout Round will be refunded by Ticketmaster and will need to purchase tickets to the Conference Semifinals separately in order to secure their seats at the November 8 match.
