VANCOUVER, BC - College men's soccer championships were in full swing over the weekend south of the border, seeing a number of former Whitecaps FC youth players in key roles for their respective sides.

Seattle University defender and former Whitecaps FC Residency player Nicholas Prasad's long ball to striker Hamza Haddadi led to a 40th-minute goal, giving the Redhawks a 1-0 win over the visiting UCLA Bruins in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.


The sophomore centre back from Surrey, BC played the full 90 minutes and also contributed to the clean sheet, earning 11th-ranked Seattle a Sweet 16 matchup at sixth-seeded Syracuse University Orangemen on Sunday, November 29.


Irving wins C-USA Player of the Year again but Kentucky fall to Drake in First Round

Former Whitecaps FC Residency goalkeeper Callum Irving recorded five saves for the Kentucky Wildcats, but Drake University escaped with a 2-1 win in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament last Thursday.


Irving concludes a stellar season, winning the Conference USA Player of the Year, the Conference USA Defensive MVP and a First-Team All-C-USA selection -- all accolades he was also bestowed a year ago. He also repeats as recipient of the Golden Glove Award, given to the goalkeeper who posts the most shutouts in C-USA play.


ADDITIONAL NOTES: Former Whitecaps FC Residency defender Alexander Comsia came on as a late substitute in North Carolina's 2-1 win over Coastal Carolina last Sunday. The Tar Heels advance to face Creighton in the Sweet 16 on Saturday, November 28... Former Whitecaps FC Residency defender Quinton Duncan registered an assist in Tulsa's 3-2 win over Florida International last Thursday in their First Round fixture. Duncan also came on as a substitute in the Second Round, but the Hurricanes fell short in the shootout round versus Notre Dame, 2-1... Former Whitecaps FC Residency midfielder Ali Musse attempted a match-high five shots, one on goal in a losing effort as Tyler (Texas) lost to Louisburg (N.C.) 1-0 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I men’s soccer title game last Saturday.
