VANCOUVER, BC – Now that’s what you call a complete performance.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC defeated defending MLS Cup champions Portland Timbers 2-1 on Saturday at BC Place in what was their most dominating showing in recent memory.

Don’t believe it?

Here are the stats to prove it.

26 Whitecaps FC launched a whopping 26 shots towards goal on Saturday, which matches the highest total of any MLS team this season. It’s also Vancouver’s third highest total since joining MLS in 2011.

94 Christian Bolaños completed 50 of 53 passes for a game-high 94.34 per cent passing accuracy. Oh, he also scored in his third consecutive match. No wonder he was the Budweiser Man of the Match.

87 Pedro Morales quietly turned in quite the performance in this one. The ‘Caps captain started alongside Matias Laba in a deep midfield position, recorded a game-high 87 touches, and did things like this for fun. More impressive to me was his defensive work rate, as evidenced by his six tackles on the night. That included a potentially goal-saving tackle in the 86th minute.
57 The ‘Caps controlled 57.11 per cent of possession against the Timbers, which was by far their highest total of the season. It was also the most possession they’ve had since a 4-0 win over Real Salt Lake on August 8, 2015 at BC Place.
133 Jordan Harvey made his 133rd MLS regular season appearance for Whitecaps FC on Saturday, which ties the club record currently held by Gershon Koffie. The 32-year-old fullback is already the club’s all-time MLS record holder in regular season starts with 123.
Whitecaps FC return to BC Place on Wednesday to host Chicago Fire. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT and tickets are still available.
