MLS Disciplinary Committee suspends Octavio Rivero and Kendall Waston

Octavio Rivero vs. Houston

NEW YORK, NY – The MLS Disciplinary Committee announced today suspensions for Vancouver Whitecaps FC striker Octavio Rivero and centre back Kendall Waston.

Rivero was suspended for one game and issued an undisclosed fine for the serious foul play that endangered the safety of an opponent in the 49th minute of Vancouver’s match against Houston Dynamo on May 28 (see video above).

Waston, meanwhile, has been suspended for an additional game (two games in total) and issued an undisclosed fine after picking up a red card for violent conduct on May 22 vs. Portland Timbers.

Rivero will now miss Vancouver's next MLS match against New England Revolution on June 18, while Waston will serve his suspension upon his return from international duty with the Costa Rican national team at the Copa America Centenario. The earliest Waston could be back in the lineup for Whitecaps FC in MLS play is July 4 vs. LA Galaxy.
