Costa Rica’s dreams of advancing past the group stage at the 2016 Copa América Centenario are hanging by a thread after a crushing 4-0 loss to the U.S. on Tuesday in Chicago.
Whitecaps FC midfielder Christian Bolaños played the full 90 minutes for Costa Rica, while centre back Kendall Waston, who was shown a red card in Costa Rica’s tournament-opening 0-0 draw with Paraguay, was not in the lineup due to suspension.
The loss drops Costa Rica to last place in Group A with just one match remaining on Saturday against South American powerhouse Colombia, who improved their record to a perfect 2W-0L-0D on Tuesday thanks to a 2-1 victory over Paraguay.
