'Caps vs. Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace players to watch at Euro 2016

Yohan Cabaye with France

No, this is not an article telling you to watch Gareth Bale or Cristiano Ronaldo at Euro 2016, which begins today. You’ll already be watching them. Instead, here are four Crystal Palace FC players to keep an eye on – keeping in mind that the FA Cup finalists will descend upon BC Place for an international friendly vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC on July 19.

Midfielder Yohan Cabaye (France): The former PSG man represented France at the 2012 Euros and the 2014 FIFA World Cup, so he’s not a newcomer to the world stage. The spotlight will be on his team more so than ever this month, however, with France being the host nation for this year’s tournament.

Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey (Wales): Meet Wales’ starting goalkeeper. He shone for Crystal Palace this past season (his performance in a 1-0 FA Cup win over Tottenham Hotspur is Exhibit A) and will need to be on his game for Wales to have a shot at advancing.

Midfielder Joe Ledley (Wales): It was a little bit of a surprise to see Ledley on Wales’ final 23-man roster. Not because he doesn’t deserve to be there. The 29-year-old has been a staple in central midfield for Wales over the last several years – and during their qualifying campaign. The surprising part is that Ledley is nearing full fitness after breaking his leg on May 7, which is simply remarkable. Ledley spent six years with Cardiff City and four years with Celtic before joining Crystal Palace in 2014.

Midfielder Jonathan Williams (Wales): Williams, 22, is the youngster of the group. He’s not expected to have a big role in the upcoming tournament, but he’s one to watch for the future.
