VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Wednesday that the club has reached an agreement to transfer striker Octavio Rivero to Chilean side Club Social y Deportivo Colo-Colo. As part of the transfer, Whitecaps FC will receive a percentage of any future transfer fees obtained by Colo-Colo.
“We thank Octavio for his contributions and wish him all the best in Chile,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. “We have built a solid foundation, and this move gives us flexibility moving forward as we continue to look to strengthen our roster for both the short and long term.”
Rivero, 24, recorded 14 goals and four assists in his 52 appearances across all competitions since signing with Whitecaps FC in December 2014.
The Treinta y Tres, Uruguay native began his professional career in his home country, playing for Central Español and Rentistas from 2012 to 2014. He rejoins the Chilean Primera Divisón where he competed for O’Higgins FC in 2014, before arriving in Vancouver late that year.
With the transfer, Whitecaps FC currently have one Designated Player spot and one international roster position vacant.
The MLS midseason international transfer window is open until August 3. Visit MLS Press Box for the 2016 roster rules and regulations.
