'Caps deal Christian Dean to Chicago Fire

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Wednesday that the club has traded centre back Christian Dean to Chicago Fire in exchange for $50,000 of General Allocation Money, an additional $50,000 of conditional Targeted Allocation Money in the event Dean starts 12 or more 2018 regular season matches for the Fire, as well as a percentage of any future transfer fees for Dean, which is on a sliding scale and expires following the first transfer window of 2020.

"Christian is ready for the next chapter in his life and this opportunity provides a new challenge," said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. "We thank Christian for his time at the club and wish him the best of luck as he continues his career."

Selected by Whitecaps FC with the third overall pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, Dean made 14 starts in 21 first-team appearances across all competitions with the club. The University of California-Berkeley product also scored one goal in 14 appearances with Whitecaps FC 2 in the United Soccer League.
