VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed today that Sam Adekugbe, Alphonso Davies, and Marcel de Jong have been called up to the Canadian national team for their international friendly vs. Jamaica on Saturday, September 2 at BMO Field (4 p.m. PT on TSN).

Davies and de Jong will join the national team following Vancouver’s away match at Orlando City SC on Saturday, August 26 and are not expected to miss any action, while Adekugbe is currently on loan with Swedish Allsvenskan club IFK Göteborg.

All three players rejoin the national team after helping Canada reach the quarterfinal stage of the Gold Cup for the first time since 2009. Canada’s Gold Cup run ultimately came to an end with a 2-1 defeat to Jamaica, which adds a little more intrigue to the upcoming friendly.

Davies, who now has three goals in five appearances for Canada, was awarded the Gold Cup Golden Boot as the top scorer in the tournament, as well as the Young Player Award as the most promising player. He was also named to the tournament Best XI.

Adekugbe also has five career appearances with Canada’s senior national team, while de Jong is one of the most experienced players of the group with 54 caps to his name.
