Standings update: 'Caps back above red line with games in hand

Celebration - huddle - sea 2 sky

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s 2-1 win over Houston Dynamo on Saturday night was their 10th victory of the season and sixth at BC Place.

Why is that notable?

Because the ‘Caps had 10 wins, and six at BC Place, in all of 2016.

Let that sink in for a second. It’s still only August. And there are still 11 matches remaining. Without getting too far ahead of ourselves, I think it’s safe to say that Carl Robinson’s men are well underway to surpassing – and potentially shattering – those totals from a year ago.

It’s been an impressive turnaround for Whitecaps FC, are now back above the red line with games in hand on four of the five teams above them in the Western Conference.

But their work is not done yet.

There is still a lot of soccer left to be played, starting Wednesday against defending MLS Cup champion Seattle Sounders FC (7 p.m. PT on TSN – tickets still available). The Sounders are tied for the top spot in the Western Conference with 40 points, six points ahead of Vancouver.

The ‘Caps, however, have two games in hand.

After Saturday’s visit to Orlando, they also have four straight matches at BC Place against Real Salt Lake, Minnesota United FC, Columbus Crew SC, and Colorado Rapids.

Home sweet home? We’re about to find out.
