Kendall Waston

Waston named to MLS Team of the Week

Kendall Waston - celebration in blue (vs Dynamo)

Big-time games call for big-time players, and for the second straight season, none was bigger in the regular season finale than Kendall Waston.

The Costa Rican centre back stood tall once again, scoring the crucial insurance goal in the form of a 72nd-minute header in the 3-0 win over Houston Dynamo on Decision Day to earn his fourth MLS Team of the Week selection for 2015.

On the other end of the pitch, Waston was a commanding presence in the clean sheet, recording match-highs with six clearances, three blocks and seven aerials won.

Not a bad day for Waston, who was also named the Budweiser Man of the Match and 2015 Whitecaps FC BMO Player of the Year earlier in the day.

Winger Kekuta Manneh was recognized as well with a bench selection for his 22-yard strike that eventually opened the floodgates for the 'Caps.

Whitecaps FC get a Knockout Round bye and will open their 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs run when they face either Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders FC, or LA Galaxy for the first leg of the Conference Semifinal on Sunday, November 1. The 'Caps will then host their first-ever home playoff game on Sunday, November 8 in the second leg at BC Place
