VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Tuesday that Yordy Reyna has been called up to the Peruvian national team as the CONMEBOL side aims to clinch a spot in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

This marks Reyna's first call-up since 2015 as he has impressed in his first season with Whitecaps FC, recording five goals, all game-winners, and three assists in 16 appearances in MLS action. Reyna will miss Saturday's visit to New York Red Bulls (2 p.m. PT on TSN1 and TSN 1410 radio) before returning to Vancouver ahead of their October 15 home match against San Jose Earthquakes.

Peru are tied with Argentina for fourth place in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying with 24 points apiece. The two sides face each other in Buenos Aires on October 5, before Peru wrap up their World Cup qualifiers with a home match against Colombia on October 10.

The top four finishers qualify to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, while the fifth-place team faces New Zealand in a two-legged home-and-away inter-confederation playoff series with a trip to Russia on the line. The last time Peru qualified for the FIFA World Cup was 1982.

Reyna has two goals in 17 senior international appearances for Peru.
