Nerwinski among nominees for 2017 MLS Rookie of the Year award

Jake Nerwinski has been nominated for the 2017 AT&T MLS Rookie of the Year award. MLS revealed the list of 17 players on the ballot today, which includes up to three players per club.


Nerwinski was the seventh overall selection in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.


The 22-year-old right back has started 17 matches for the Western Conference-leading ‘Caps, recording four assists – the second most among MLS rookies. He’s also earned two MLS Team of the Week selections, three Whitecaps FC Budweiser Man of the Match honours, and was the Whitecaps FC Player of the Month for July.

Players, technical staffers (technical directors, GMs and coaches) and a select group of national and regional media will begin voting for each of the awards on Tuesday, October 17. Each voting group, representing one-third of the total vote, will have until Monday, October 23 at 2 p.m. PT to submit their votes. Finalists (three per award) will be announced on Tuesday, October 31.
