Here are the key storylines to watch.

BEST IN THE WEST?

With a win on Sunday, Whitecaps FC would clinch the top spot in the Western Conference for the first time in club history. It’s also possible they can do so if other results fall in their favour, but the ‘Caps will be looking to take care of business themselves. On the other hand, the Quakes are in desperate need of a win to stay alive in the playoff race. This one’s going to have a playoff feel, that’s for sure.

CHASING HISTORY

Also with a win on Sunday, the ‘Caps would set a new club record for points and home wins in MLS, while also matching their previous record for total wins. It could be a historic evening for the men in Blue and White.

THE BIG MAN IS BACK

After scoring the dramatic goal that sent Costa Rica to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Whitecaps FC captain Kendall Waston is back in Vancouver and focused on leading the ‘Caps to new heights.

“I enjoyed everything that happened with my national team, but now with the club we are looking forward to winning [the Western Conference] if we beat San Jose,” Waston said. “That’s our mentality. We know what we’re playing for and we just want to make history for this club.”
