Whitecaps FC face Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo in Pacific Rim Cup final

HONOLULU, HAWAII – After back-to-back wins to start the trip, Vancouver Whitecaps FC conclude the Hawaii leg of their preseason schedule on Saturday night against J1 League side Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. PT (7 p.m. local) at Aloha Stadium.

Saturday’s match serves as the championship final for the first annual Pacific Rim Cup. The ‘Caps opened the competition with a 1-0 win over Iwaki FC on Thursday thanks to a 90th-minute penalty kick by Cristian Techera, while Sapporo defeated Columbus Crew SC 3-2.


The ‘Caps already faced Sapporo in a pre-tournament friendly earlier this week, earning a 4-0 win.

ABOUT HOKKAIDO CONSADOLE SAPPORO

Hokkaido Consadole are six-time Japanese League Two champions, most recently winning the title in 2016. They are entering their second season in the Japanese first division, known as the J1 League. The player to watch is Jay Bothroyd, a 35-year-old English striker who is best known for his time at Cardiff City FC. Bothroyd scored a team-high 10 goals in 14 matches last season. Hokkaido Consadole's roster also features Japan national team legend Junichi Inamoto, who has played in three FIFA World Cups.
