Kamara becomes 10th player in MLS history to score 100 regular season goals

HOUSTON, TX – Kei Kamara has joined elite company.

On Saturday evening in Houston, the Vancouver Whitecaps FC striker became the 10th player in league history to score 100 MLS regular season goals. Kamara, who is second to only Chris Wondolowski among active goalscorers, reached the century mark in the 28th minute, slotting a penalty kick just past the outstretched arms of Dynamo keeper Chris Seitz.

He also recorded an assist on Brek Shea’s 49th-minute winner.

Fittingly, Saturday was Kamara’s 300th match in MLS, including 12 appearances in the MLS Cup Playoffs. And as he said this week: he’s not done yet.

“I definitely want to keep playing and keep getting wins,” Kamara told reporters. “I’m only playing for one reason and that hasn’t happened yet.”

Kamara, who Whitecaps FC acquired in December for their 2019 natural first round MLS SuperDraft pick and a conditional 2020 second round selection, is in his 12th MLS season. His MLS career includes stops with San Jose Earthquakes, Houston Dynamo, Kansas City Wizards/Sporting Kansas City, a return to Columbus, and most recently, with New England.

Outside of MLS, Kamara also played for then-English Premier League side Norwich City FC, where he became the first player from Sierra Leone to score in the Premier League, and English Football League Championship club Middlesbrough FC.
