Canada Soccer statement on cancellation of the Concacaf U-17 Women's Championship in Nicaragua

Following protests in Nicaragua, Concacaf has made the decision to cancel the remainder of the U-17 Women's Championship tournament that had been taking place in Managua.


Canada' team features nine players and one coach from the Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Super REX program in partnership with BC Soccer.


Canada Soccer issued the following statement on Monday:


Canada Soccer's Women's U-17 National Team and Canadian referees have all departed Nicaragua and are safely on their way back to Canada. Canada Soccer supports the decision of Concacaf to cancel the 2018 Concacaf Women's Under-17 Championship in Managua, Nicaragua and will continue to work with Concacaf to ensure that safety remains the priority.

Concacaf has not yet announced how qualifying will be decided for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Uruguay this November.
