VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Monday that striker Jordyn Huitema from the club’s Girls Elite Super REX program, in partnership with BC Soccer, will play with French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the upcoming Women’s International Champions Cup (WICC) at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium July 26 and 29.

PSG, 2018 French Cup winners and finalists in the 2017 UEFA Women’s Champions League, will play National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side North Carolina Courage on Thursday. The winner will then play the winner of Lyon against Manchester City in the final on Sunday. Prior to the tournament, PSG will play Manchester City at the University of Portland’s Merlo Field on Tuesday, July 24.

Huitema, who has not signed a professional contract, will maintain her college eligibility as she keeps her options open.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for Jordyn to test herself with one of the best club teams in the world,” said Emma Humphries, Whitecaps FC Girls Elite REX director and head coach. “We’re thrilled to have helped Jordyn progress to this point in her career, along with all of our young prospects who are representing Canada and playing collegiately. We look forward to continuing to support them as they each reach their full potential.”

The native of Chilliwack, BC first joined Whitecaps FC as a 13-year-old in 2015. Now 17, Huitema has moved through Canada Soccer's women’s EXCEL program and made 11 appearances for Canada‘s senior women’s national team. In 2017 she became the second youngest goalscorer in Canada women’s national team history, and the first player to score for Canada’s U-17, U-20, and senior women’s national teams in the same calendar year. She was recognized at the end of 2017 as Canada’s U-17 women’s Player of the Year, won the Golden Boot at the 2018 Concacaf U-20 Championship tournament, and helped the Red and White qualify for the 2018 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Uruguay this November.
