Whitecaps FC acquire third-round SuperDraft pick from FC Cincinnati for Spencer Richey

Spencer Richey MLS debut - goal kick

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that the club has acquired FC Cincinnati's natural third-round pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft in exchange for goalkeeper Spencer Richey.

Richey, a 26-year-old native of Seattle, Washington, played last season on loan with then-USL side FC Cincinnati. During his three seasons in Vancouver, Richey made five first-team starts with a 3W-2L-0D record and one clean sheet after being selected with the 61st overall pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.

“We feel this is a move that makes sense for both Spencer and the club," said Whitecaps FC head coach Marc Dos Santos. "He has worked hard for this opportunity and we wish him well."

Following a three-month roster freeze, MLS held a half-day trade window on Sunday from 6 to 10 a.m. PT. Clubs will once again be able to sign and trade their players following the conclusion of the MLS Expansion Draft on Tuesday.
