Saturday, Feb. 9

The 'Caps had a short recovery session at Kozuki Stadium on Saturday, looking ahead to Sunday's preseason fixture vs. Iwaki FC. We also had the chance to catch up with Dos Santos, who talked about his impressions of Friday's match and his plans for the lineup on Sunday. 

Friday, Feb. 8

It was a busy day for Whitecaps FC on Friday, as the club announced the acquisitions of striker Joaquín Ardaiz and centre back Érik Godoy before playing their first preseason match. David Norman Jr. scored the lone goal for the 'Caps in a 3-1 loss Japanese club V-Varen Nagasaki.

Thursday, Feb. 7

The 'Caps continued working on their defensive set-piece responsibilities Thursday at Kozuki Stadium, as they finalized preparations for Friday's preseason opener against Japanese side V-Varen Nagasaki. "We want to start breeding this winning mentality," said Whitecaps FC defender Doneil Henry when asked about Friday's match. "Of course, you want to achieve certain things in the game, but ultimately we still want to win."

Wednesday, Feb. 6

The 'Caps trained at Iolani School's Kozuki Stadium Wednesday on a sunny morning in Honolulu. Most of the session revolved around defensive organization, including the positioning and movement of the back line in transitional moments as well as introduction of defending from set-play situations. The 'Caps then had an afternoon gym session at the University of Hawaii. 

Tuesday, Feb. 5

After their first and only day off of the trip on Monday, the ‘Caps were back on the training pitch Tuesday morning at the University of Hawaii. It was a heavy session, in which the team worked primarily on their offensive organization and how they want to build from the back. Whitecaps FC head coach Marc Dos Santos also provided updates on the status of midfielders Michael Baldisimo and Russell Teibert, who are back in Vancouver rehabbing, and shared his plans for the team’s preseason matches on Friday and Sunday.  

Sunday, Feb. 3

The 'Caps continued to ramp up their preseason preparations on Sunday, playing a 50-minute intrasquad match at the University of Hawaii. Yordy Reyna scored the lone goal of the scrimmage, finishing a cross from Whitecaps FC Academy product Chance Carter just before the final whistle.

Saturday, Feb. 2

The 'Caps had their first training session in the Aloha State on Saturday at the University of Hawaii – exactly one month ahead of their MLS season opener against Minnesota United on March 2 at BC Place. In preparation for Sunday's intrasquad match, the 'Caps worked primarily on defensive organization and transition from corner kicks. It was also our first opportunity to speak to new Whitecaps FC right back Scott Sutter, who joined the group last week as a free agent signing. 

Friday, Feb. 1 

After touching down in Honolulu in the wee hours of morning, the 'Caps had a light recovery session Friday on Waikiki Beach. The team was encouraged to spend the rest of the day resting and hydrating to get themselves acclimated before kicking off training on Saturday. Of note, a total of 12 Whitecaps FC Academy products, including eight currently a part of the Academy or development squad, travelled with the team to Hawaii.
