'Caps to face either Hamilton, Calgary, or Victoria in 2019 Canadian Championship

Vancouver Whitecaps FC learned their potential opponents for the freshly expanded Canadian Championship on Tuesday, as announced by Canada Soccer.


The 'Caps will enter the tournament in the third round, playing the first leg away on Wednesday, July 10, and the second leg at BC Place on Wednesday, July 24. They will face the winner of the second round pairing between Hamilton's Forge FC and the winner of the first round series between Calgary's Cavalry FC and Victoria's Pacific FC. All three teams play in the new Canadian Premier League.

Round 1:
Cavalry FC vs. Pacific FC (May 15 and 22)
Round 2:
Winner of Round 1 vs. Forge FC (June 5 and 12)
Round 3:
Winner of Round 2 vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC (July 10 and 24)

Should Whitecaps FC advance to the semifinals, they will play either Montreal Impact, or their third round opponents which could be any of FC Edmonton, York9 FC, or AS Blainville. The 'Caps would play the first leg of the semifinals on the road on Wednesday, August 7, and the second leg at BC Place on Wednesday, August 14.


On the other side of the bracket, Toronto FC have been granted a bye to the semifinals. In the semifinals they will face either Ottawa Fury FC, or their quarterfinal opponents which could be any of Valour FC, HFC Wanderers FC, or Vaughan Azzurri.


The two-leg final will be played on consecutive Wednesdays on September 18 and September 25. The higher seeded team will host the second leg of the final.
