Whitecaps FC open Los Angeles preseason trip with draw versus the Galaxy

LA Galaxy preseason full-time

LOS ANGELES, CA – Vancouver Whitecaps FC played to a 0-0 draw against LA Galaxy in their first of three preseason matches in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Head coach Marc Dos Santos made only one change to his starting lineup from the previous preseason match in Hawaii, as Jake Nerwinski came in for Scott Sutter at right back. New signings Érik Godoy, Inbeom Hwang, and Jasser Khmiri joined the team in LA but did not dress for Saturday’s scrimmage.

After a scoreless first half, goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau came up with a good diving save to keep the match scoreless in the 52nd minute. Later on the ‘Caps twice hit the crossbar through a Yordy Reyna corner kick and a strike from academy product Georges Mukumbilwa.

Winger Lucas Venuto would sub on in the final 20 minutes to see his first action for the Blue and White.

As a number of additional substitutions were made, the ‘Caps held firm in their defensive organization to keep the clean sheet in a 0-0 final score.

Next up for Whitecaps FC is a match against Mexican side Club Tijuana on Wednesday, with preseason concluding next Saturday against MLS counterparts Los Angeles FC at Banc of California Stadium. Following next Saturday’s match, the ‘Caps will turn their attention to their MLS season opener on Saturday, March 2 against Minnesota United FC at BC Place.
