LOS ANGELES, CA – Fredy Montero made his return and Inbeom Hwang donned the Blue and White for the first time as Vancouver Whitecaps FC wrapped up their preseason slate with a 1-0 loss to Los Angeles Football Club at Banc of California Stadium on Saturday evening.
Montero started and played 45 minutes for the ‘Caps, while Hwang checked in as a substitute just after the hour mark.
Carlos Vela’s 13th-minute goal provided the difference for LAFC, as the Mexican international found the inside of the far post with a shot from just outside the corner of the six-yard box.
Zac MacMath started in net for the ‘Caps, keeping the match close with a number of saves from up close. Whitecaps FC had a pair of chances to equalize late from Derek Cornelius and Lucas Venuto, but LAFC would hold on for the 1-0 victory.
The ‘Caps now return to Vancouver for their last week of preseason camp, before hosting Minnesota United FC in their MLS opener at BC Place next Saturday, March 2. Visit whitecapsfc.com for ticket information.
Brett Levis was forced to exit the match in the ninth minute due to a right hamstring injury… New ‘Caps striker Joaquín Ardaiz, who arrived in LA late Thursday night, participated in an on-field session with the trainers on Friday but did not dress on Saturday evening.
