Hwang called up to South Korea for March friendlies vs. Bolivia, Colombia

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Inbeom Hwang has been called up to the Korea Republic men's national team for a pair of upcoming home friendlies this month. 


The Taegeuk Warriors take to the pitch for the first time since the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, taking on Bolivia at Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium on March 22 then Colombia at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on March 26. 

Hwang is not expected to miss any matches with Whitecaps FC while away on international duty.


A native of Daejeon, South Korea, Hwang has collected 12 caps and one goal after making his senior debut in September 2018. Most recently, Hwang appeared in all five of South Korea’s matches at the Asian Cup, where he was listed as one of the 10 best young stars to watch at the competition.


The 22-year-old midfielder has started and played the full 90 minutes in both of Vancouver's matches so far this MLS season, recording one assist and a team-high six chances created. He was named Vancouver's man of the match in Saturday's 1-0 defeat away at Real Salt Lake. 

Next up for Whitecaps FC is an away tilt with Houston Dynamo this Saturday at BBVA Compass Stadium (12 p.m. PT on CTV/TSN1 and TSN 1040 radio). Following the international break, the 'Caps then return home to face Cascadia rivals Seattle Sounders FC on March 30 at BC Place (7 p.m. PT on TSN and TSN 1040 - tickets still available).
