'Caps set to play at Concacaf U-13 Champions League in Costa Rica

The newly formed Whitecaps FC Pre-Academy team will make their first foray into official competition this week as they travel to Costa Rica to take part in the 2019 Concacaf U-13 Champions League.

"This is a new group, and this tournament provides a fantastic opportunity to test themselves against their peers from other countries in the region," said Marinos Papageorgopoulos, director of Whitecaps FC BMO Academy Centres. "It's a great challenge for them, and will provide a terrific learning experience as Bart and his staff begin working with them through their development, and eventually into the MLS Academy." 

The 2006-born roster is led by head coach Bart Choufour, and assisted by coach Paul Thompson. The young 'Caps will take on some of the best talent from clubs in the Concacaf region. The 'Caps will begin the tournament in Group D alongside Mount Pleasant Academy (Jamaica), CD Universitario (Panama), and Pioneros Cancun (Mexico).
