Whitecaps FC name Brendan Teeling BMO Okanagan Academy head coach

Brendan Teeling

VANCOUVER, BC
– Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that Brendan Teeling has been named head coach of the BMO Okanagan Academy Centres.
Teeling, a native of Ireland, holds a UEFA A licence and joined Whitecaps FC in the summer of 2019 from fellow Major League Soccer (MLS) club LA Galaxy, where he was the assistant director of the Elite Development League program in Orange County.

Most recently he was the head coach of the Whitecaps FC BMO Kootenay East Academy where he acted as the technical director for the Kootenay East Youth Soccer Association (KEYSA), the umbrella organization for youth soccer in the East Kootenays with approximately 700 members.  Teeling also ran the Whitecaps FC camp programs in the Kootenays.
“We are really excited to have someone of Brendan’s experience take the lead for our association partnerships and academy programs in the Okanagan,” said Marinos Papageorgopoulos, Whitecaps FC BMO Academy Centres director. “Brendan is a quality coach who has done great work both with LA Galaxy and recently as our head coach in the Kootenays.  Not only was he successful in growing our Kootenays ‘Caps to College program to new heights, he also worked together with our association partner KEYSA and helped enhance and provide more opportunities for the local players, coaches, and ultimately the community.”
"The Okanagan is also very uniquely positioned to Whitecaps FC programs and resources in Vancouver,” added Papageorgopoulos. “We have already seen Isaac Boehmer from Okanagan Falls move through our BMO Academy System locally, get an opportunity to be selected to our MLS Academy in Vancouver, and then earn a chance to sign professionally on our first team MLS roster. Working closely with Brendan, we will continue providing many visits from our Vancouver staff to the Okanagan not only for local players, but also our association partners. We are keen to continue to use this close relationship to get young promising players into Vancouver to train and play in our MLS Academy and Girls Elite REX programs, the next step on our high performance and professional pathway.”
Teeling will begin his role in the Okanagan in early November, with programs to be announced shortly thereafter.
