Concacaf Champions League to institute new expanded format starting in 2023

Concacaf announced a groundbreaking new format for the Concacaf Champions League on Thursday, starting in 2023/24.


A regionalized group stage will be introduced, followed by a 16-team knockout stage.

A total of 20 clubs from Canada Mexico, and the United States will qualify through performance in domestic and cup competitions.


Canada will have three guaranteed spots, one from the Canadian Championship and two for the Canadian Premier League (CPL). All three MLS clubs will also be able to qualify from league competition.


20 more clubs will join from Central America, and 10 from the Caribbean.
