Andrés Cubas and Ryan Gauld named to MLS Team of the Matchday after away win against LAFC

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC attacking midfielder Ryan Gauld and defensive midfielder Andrés Cubas have been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for their performances in the 'Caps thrilling 3-2 away victory over defending MLS Cup champions Los Angeles FC in Matchday 21.

Gauld netted a goal as well as two assists on Saturday night, bringing his season totals to five goals and six assists across all competitions this season and marking the eighth time in his Whitecaps FC career he's recorded multiple goal contributions in one game.

The Scottish playmaker became the first 'Caps player to record a goal and two assists in a match since attacking midfielder Yordy Reyna accomplished the feat against Minnesota United FC on July 28, 2018.

In addition, Gauld tallied 81.5% passing accuracy, 10 successful duels, nine crosses, four chances created and three successful tackles on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, Cubas won possession back 12 times, registered 11 successful duels, eight interceptions, five tackles, and 43 passes (all team-highs) en route to helping the 'Caps keep the defending champs at bay in their own backyard. 

Cubas becomes the ninth 'Caps player to be named to the MLS Team of the Matchday this season, joining Gauld (Matchday 11Matchday 14Matchday 16, Matchday 21), Julian Gressel (Matchday 7Matchday 16), Yohei Takaoka (Matchday 8Matchday 10), Brian White (Matchday 11Matchday 16), Ali Ahmed (Matchday 6), Simon Becher (Matchday 5Matchday 6), Tristan Blackmon (Matchday 4), and Ranko Veselinović (Matchday 17).
