Berhalter makes MLS history at World Cup in memorable day for 'Caps midfielders

Berhalter Turkey

He's done it again.

Sebastian Berhalter made more history on Thursday, becoming the first active MLS player to record both a goal and assist in a match at the FIFA World Cup. Read more about his performance at MLSsoccer.com.

Within three minutes against Türkiye, Berhalter sent in a trademark corner kick that Auston Trusty finished to go up 1-0.

Then in the second half, it was another familiar sight. An absolute rocket to tie the match 2-2.

It was a tremendous day for current and former Whitecaps FC midfielders.

In addition to Berhalter, his midfield partner Andrés Cubas helped shutout Australia in a result that is expected to get Paraguay to the knockout round.

And before that, it was former 'Caps midfielder Pedro Vite putting in a Man of the Match performance, taking the corner kick on the winning goal for Ecuador in a vital 2-1 win over Germany to get through to the knockout round.

Berhalter, Cubas, and Vite all played together in the 'Caps midfield, memorably anchoring the side during the run to the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup final.
